EP1 Red’s Most Favourite Songs (January 2018)

Dear ep1 red VCIS parents and guardians,

The children of ep1 red here at Varee Chiangmai International School have recently learnt to sing 2 new songs.

VCIS THAI LOGO

These songs happen to be their most favourite songs ever!!!!!

I thought it would be a good idea to video them performing the songs as they really enjoy singing and moving to them.

VCIS ENGLISH LOGO

The ep1 red children usually sing and move to songs first thing in the morning before they start their morning learning periods and after lunch before they start their afternoon classes.

Songs like this are not only great fun but also serve to allow the children to get focused and ready to learn before classes.

I have attached the original YouTube videos so that your children may perform them at home if they so wish.

I hope you enjoy watching the videos.

Fun was definitely had by all!!!

Thank you and kind regards….Teacher Chaz

Time, Sense of Touch and Origami Fun! (EP1 Red November 2017)

Dear ep1 red VCIS parents and guardians,

In Mathematics the children of ep1 red here at Varee Chiangmai International School are learning about time. They recently made their own clocks which will help them in various time topic activities.

The minute hands on the paper plate clocks were a little long when the pictures below were taken however they have been cut shorter so that they can move around the clock faces freely.

VCIS THAI LOGO

I am sure that you will agree that each paper plate clock is a work of art!

VCIS ENGLISH LOGO

Each ep1 red pupil is now familiar with O’ clock, half past, quarter past and telling the time to 5 minute intervals. This includes writing sentences about the time with no assistance.

SCIENCE SENSE OF TOUCH

Recently the children took part in a ‘sense of touch’ practical activity in their Science lesson.

The class was split into 4 groups each with their own sense of touch future board.

The children initially looked at each item on the future board and hypothesised what each item would feel like. They then went on to actually touch the items and then write simple sentences describing how each item felt and to see if their initial hypotheses were correct.

ORIGAMI PIKACHU and ORIGAMI KRATHONGS

A week ago one of the children in ep1 red showed me a beautiful origami ball they had made at home and the whole class expressed great excitement to see it. So I thought it would be a good idea for the children to create a few origami pieces as they were so fascinated by creating things by folding paper.

To create the pieces the children had to listen to my instructions in English and pay careful attention.

I am extremely proud of their efforts especially since it was their first time creating origami works of art.

I hope you enjoy the images!

Kind regards…Teacher Chaz.

Introductory Integrated Maths and Science Class on Shapes (October 2017)

Dear VCIS ep1 red parents and guardians,

This is week 24 for all the English Programme 1 pupils here at Varee Chiangmai International School.

The children in my class are 6 years old and English is a foreign language for them.

VCIS THAI LOGO

Next week the ep1 red pupils will start to learn about shapes in Maths.

Today the children had an introductory lesson on shapes by using tangrams to create various animals.

A tangram is essentially a puzzle consisting of 7 shapes.

These shapes can then be used to create a multitude of animals and objects.

tangram animals

(PLEASE CLICK ON THE IMAGES BELOW TO MAKE THEM LARGER)

1. Firstly the children were given a double sided tangram template to colour in. Each shape needed to be a different colour. The other side of the tangram template was also coloured in, using exactly the same colours as the first side.

Capture

2. They then cut out the 7 shapes a tangram consists of.

3. The children watched various mini videos on how to create different animals and composed them using the mini-whiteboards as a ‘canvas’. The children were initially shown the ‘shadow’ of the animal they needed to create so as they could try to figure out which shapes went where. Then they were given the answer key as to the correct position of each specific shape.

20171030_09263620171030_092619

4. The children then chose one animal they liked and stuck them onto their worksheets by moving each shape from their mini-whiteboard onto their worksheet.

5. Finally the children wrote simple informative sentences about their animals relating to whether it was a mammal, bird reptile or fish.

VCIS ENGLISH LOGO

This is an example of integrated learning in the classroom.

The children are applying what they have previously learnt in Science (mammals, birds, fish and reptiles) and indeed Health (body parts) last term, to complement their learning in an entirely different subject this term. In this case the subject being Mathematics.

I hope you enjoy the images!

Thank you…teacher Chaz.

EFL Barrier Game on the Topic of Clothes (October 2017)

Dear VCIS ep1 red parents and guardians,

This is week 21 for the pupils of EP1 red here at Varee Chiangmai International School.

VCIS THAI LOGO

The YouTube video below shows the ep1 red children taking part in an extremely useful and fun activity referred to as a barrier game.

A barrier game is essentially a pair based communicative activity which allows each member of a pair to either ask or answer specific questions in order to gain specific information for the game to progress.

Capture

Capture

A barrier game usually focuses on spoken language and active listening comprehension although this particular barrier game also required a degree of reading, colouring in and a significant amount of writing.

This barrier game focused on 6 items of clothing, 6 different colours, the target word of ‘wearing’ and the indefinite article a.

VCIS ENGLISH LOGO

Once the children had completed the barrier game they then went on to complete the exercise by writing up the sentences they had heard or spoken as responses.

20171010_094921[1]20171010_094934[1]

During activities like this there is always a high degree of scaffolding available for those pupils who require it. For example during this exercise the colour words were typed on the worksheets in the colour they spelt. The clothing words were written on two classroom whiteboards with the drawings of the items of clothing next to them. Also more ‘experienced’ children were intentionally paired with those pupils whom would benefit from their assistance.

I hope you enjoy the video!

Kind regards…Teacher Chaz.

EP1 Red Silhouette Paintings (2017)

Dear VCIS ep1 red parents and guardians,

Today the ep1 red children here at Varee Chiangmai International School had their final Art class of the academic year.

VCIS THAI LOGO

I will not be teaching my pupils Art next term as they will be learning Thai Dance.

The children created beautiful sunset silhouette paintings using only the colours red, yellow and black.

VCIS ENGLISH LOGO

Black is a very important colour and using bright colours along with it allows the background of a painting to be emphasised.

Every one of my pupils is extremely talented and I am extremely proud of them all.

I hope you enjoy the images!

Kind regards…Teacher Chaz.
