Dear ep1 red VCIS parents and guardians,
Very recently the children of ep1 red here at Varee Chiangmai International School produced beautiful story maps of their current reading book Little Red Hen.
This is their second attempt at this particular activity however, this time with a different book and all of the ep1 red children have been extremely successful.
The children were given 6 random sentences from their reading book which were displayed on the interactive whiteboard.
The children then had to find the correct order in which the sentences occurred and write them into their story maps and then draw the appropriate illustrations.
Finally the children went on to colour their drawings.
This activity applies the use of a multitude of skills and enhances a range of abilities namely reading, writing, working memory, sentence structure, punctuation, grammar, skim reading, numbers, illustrating and sequencing to mention only but a few.
Please note that to L1 learners (English as a first language learners) this activity may seem simple however it is quite sophisticated and challenging for L2 learners (English as a second language).
Just eight weeks a go the majority of the children in ep1 red did not possess any understanding of the English language whatsoever, including speaking, reading and letter formation.
All of the instruction and guidance the children have received has always been in English.
The children’s learning has been immense since they started on the English programme and will continue to progress rapidly.
I am extremely proud of the progress of all of my pupils.
